In ancient Egypt, a number of young women were granted the privilige to be priestesses. Those women were chosen because of their charms and their beauty. They officiated alongside the priests. Some priestesses like Hetpet were consecrated to the cult of goddesses, whilst other officiated in gods sanctuaries.

Priestess had an important role in the egyptian society. They were not only involved in religious but also in political affairs. Their main mission was to keep a balance between the world of the men and the kingdom of the gods.
